The vision of the Faculty of Agriculture Universitas Gadjah Mada (Faperta UGM), Smart Eco-bioproduction, is not only a guiding principle for its academic community but also shared with visitors to the Faculty’s booth during AgriFest 2024, held from 5-7 September 2024, at the Center for Agro-Technology Innovation (PIAT) UGM. Through the distribution of souvenirs, including reusable tumblers and coconut seedlings, the Faculty aims to raise public awareness about the importance of healthy living and food self-sufficiency.
The coordinator for the Faculty of Agriculture UGM’s participation at AgriFest 2024, Desi Utami, S.P., M.Env.Sc., Ph.D., emphasized that the Faculty’s presence in the community should make a positive impact. The decision to distribute reusable tumblers and coconut seedlings reflects their commitment to propagating the vision of Smart Eco-bioproduction.
“We distributed 60 tumblers and 30 coconut seedlings. This initiative aligns with our vision and tagline, Smart Eco-bioproduction, while also supporting the UGM Rector’s instructions to promote healthy living and reduce single-use waste,” explained Desi.
Desi elaborated that the coconut seedlings handed out to visitors are Genjah coconut seedlings. These seedlings, sourced from the coconut nursery at UGM’s Mangunan Farm in Bantul, can bear fruit within five years of planting. This initiative aims to encourage the public to engage in productive planting activities and contribute to food independence and security.
The tangible efforts by the Faculty of Agriculture UGM to promote healthy lifestyles and planting among the general public demonstrate their strong commitment to achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 1: No Poverty, SDG 2: Zero Hunger, SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 13: Climate Action, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
