Overview
The Department of Agriculture Socio-Economics as one of the Centers of Excellent has been established since the inception of Universitas Gadjah Mada. Based on VAT No. 37 of 1950, established under the name Agricultural Research Investigation Section led by Prof. Iso Reksohadiprojo (the first economist in Indonesia). The name of this department was later changed to the Department of Agricultural economics in 1972 and then renamed the Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics in 1984.
This department develops knowledge in the field of agricultural socio-economics based on the perspective of community socio-economic behavior and its relationship to the conditions of the community.
The Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics has two study programs, (1) Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness Study Programs, and (2) Agricultural Extension and Communication Study Program
Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness Study Programs
The S1 Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness Study Program develop agricultural sciences, covering the micro aspects which are mainly related to farm management and agricultural marketing, as well as the macro aspects relating to technology transfer in agriculture. The Agricultural / Agribusiness Economics Study Program consists of two study concentrations namely Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness
Vision
S1 Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture UGM in 2023 is “becoming an excellent national and international study program in providing highly competitive human resources; developing, and preserving agricultural economics and agribusiness; and applying it to develop people’s welfare is based on Pancasila values.”
Mission
S1 Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture UGM is related to efforts to develop education, research, and service that are useful for the needs of national and international communities. In detail, the mission of the S1 Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness Study Program, the UGM Faculty of Agriculture is as follows:
- Building education in the field of agricultural economics and research-based agribusiness to produce graduates who are competent in the application, development, and dissemination of science and technology, as well as adaptive to environmental changes by utilizing information technology;
- Develop strategic research in the field of agricultural economics and sustainable agribusiness through collaboration with national and international institutions to support the development of science and technology;
- Providing services to the community with community-oriented programs for empowerment and improvement of community welfare; and
- Develop study programs that are responsive to the development of science and technology, government policies and the needs of national and international communities.
Agricultural Extension and Communication Study Program
The Agricultural Extension and Communication Study Program (PKP Study Program) develops agricultural extension sciences including micro aspects, namely management of extension at the farm level with an understanding of the conditions of rural communities, and macro aspects related to technology transfer in agriculture accompanied by understanding and developing agricultural information dissemination.
Vision:
Being an excellent and quality study program increasing competence in improving science and technology in the field of agricultural extension and communication for community empowerment to enhance well-being.
Mission:
Providing appropriate education for the development of science and technology in the field of agricultural extension and communication through the process of education, research, and quality and professional community services by developing and utilizing relevant cooperation networks.
