The Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada (Faperta UGM), welcomed students and teachers from SMA Islam Athirah Bukit Baruga and SMA Muhammadiyah Ahmad Dahlan Metro as part of a student recruitment and outreach program introducing prospective students to Universitas Gadjah Mada and the Faculty of Agriculture. Held on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, the visit provided participants with an opportunity to explore academic pathways, educational facilities, and various programs available at UGM.
The program began with a presentation on Universitas Gadjah Mada delivered by Mgs. Muhammad Prima Putra, S.Pi., M.Sc., Ph.D. During the session, participants received information about the various admission pathways to UGM, the wide range of study programs across different academic clusters, and the facilities that support student life and learning.
In his presentation, Mgs. Muhammad Prima Putra, S.Pi., M.Sc., Ph.D. also shared valuable advice for students aspiring to pursue higher education. He emphasized the importance of having strong determination, setting ambitious goals, and striving to achieve them through dedication, hard work, and prayer.

Participants were further introduced to the comprehensive facilities available at UGM, including healthcare services, campus security systems, student dormitories, transportation services, and the university’s extensive national and international partnerships. The session also covered the UGM admission process and various academic programs that students can choose based on their interests and career aspirations.

The next session featured Margi Asih Maimunah, S.P., M.Sc. Ph.D, who introduced the Faculty of Agriculture to the participants. The presentation covered the faculty’s leadership structure, the expertise and composition of its academic staff, global ranking achievements, national and international accreditations, student profile, study programs, and laboratory facilities that support education and research activities.
An interactive discussion session followed, allowing students to ask questions directly to the speakers. One participant inquired about the most suitable admission pathway for prospective students. The discussion highlighted the characteristics of various admission routes, including the International Undergraduate Program (IUP), which offers students an internationally oriented learning experience.
Another topic that attracted significant interest was the role of academic and non-academic achievements in grade-based admissions. The Faculty of Agriculture team explained the importance of maintaining consistent academic performance while encouraging students to develop their skills and talents through relevant extracurricular activities and competitions.

Participants also expressed interest in the international atmosphere within the Faculty of Agriculture. Responding to a question about opportunities for international students, the faculty explained that it regularly welcomes students from various countries, including Japan, who are interested in studying Indonesia’s tropical agriculture and fisheries systems.
The discussion also addressed concerns about the declining interest of young people in the agricultural sector. In response, the Faculty of Agriculture emphasized that agriculture has evolved into a highly innovative and technology-driven field. Advances such as the Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), precision agriculture, data analytics, smart farming, and meta-farming have created exciting opportunities for younger generations to contribute to the development of sustainable modern agriculture.
In addition, participants asked about common aspects often overlooked during the university admission process and opportunities to participate in international programs during their studies. The faculty stressed the importance of carefully fulfilling all academic and administrative requirements, including preparing supporting documents and meeting the specific criteria of each admission pathway.
Through this activity, the Faculty of Agriculture UGM aims to provide prospective students with a more comprehensive understanding of higher education in agriculture while inspiring the younger generation to actively contribute to the advancement of Indonesia’s agricultural sector, food systems, and natural resource management through innovation, technology, and global collaboration. This initiative aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 2: Zero Hunger by introducing the role of agricultural education and innovation in supporting sustainable food systems and food security; SDG 4: Quality Education by providing accessible information on higher education opportunities, university admission pathways, and academic and international development programs for prospective students; SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure by introducing modern agricultural technologies, including the Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), precision agriculture, and smart farming; SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities by promoting more equitable access to higher education information and opportunities for students from diverse regions and backgrounds; and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals by strengthening collaboration between universities, secondary schools, and national and international educational networks.
