The Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) is actively working to enhance the quality of its education and prepare its graduates for global competitiveness. One of the key initiatives is pursuing international accreditation from ASIIN (Akkreditierungsagentur für Studiengänge in Ingenieurwissenschaften, Informatik, Naturwissenschaften und Mathematik). This year, the faculty is preparing for ASIIN accreditation for one undergraduate program, Agricultural Microbiology, and three master’s programs: Master of Fisheries Science, Master of Plant Pest Science, and Master of Phytopathology. A coordination meeting was held on August 21, 2024, to advance this effort.
The coordination meeting aimed to improve education quality and global competitiveness, following the successful ASIIN international accreditation of eight other undergraduate programs, including Agronomy, Aquaculture, Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness, Soil Science, Aquatic Resource Management, Plant Protection, and Fishery Product Technology. The meeting was attended by the accreditation team formed to ensure all programs meet ASIIN’s international standards.
The meeting was led by Dr. Hani Perwitasari, S.P., M.Sc., Chair of Quality Assurance at the Faculty of Agriculture, who expressed hopes that ASIIN accreditation would enhance the faculty’s international reputation.
“We hope this accreditation will not only improve the faculty’s reputation on the global stage but also provide the best education for our students,” said Dr. Perwitasari.
To ensure a smooth ASIIN preparation process, the Faculty of Agriculture invited Dr. Zuliyati Rohmah, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D., a faculty member from Faculty of Biology UGM with extensive experience in ASIIN accreditation. The preparation involves compiling self-evaluation documents, gathering data on curriculum, facilities, and human resources.
“While the ASIIN documentation from Faculty of Agriculture is complete, some areas need attention, such as adding course mapping and Learning Outcomes (LO) for programs, providing bilingual reporting in Indonesian and English, and including information on the graduation process,” explained Dr. Zuli.
Dr. Dyah Weny Respatie, S.P., M.Si., Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs at the Faculty of Agriculture, who also attended the meeting, stated that the our faculty is committed to achieving ASIIN international accreditation.
“We are committed to improving the quality of education and research to compete on a global level. ASIIN accreditation is a crucial step in realizing this vision,” added Dr. Weny.
The ASIIN coordination meeting at the Faculty of Agriculture reflects our commitment to achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, SDG 4: Quality Education), and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
