Alkhansa Khairunnisa, a 2022 cohort student of the Agronomy Study Program at the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), successfully participated in the ASEAN International Mobility for Students (AIMS) program at Gyeongsang National University (GNU), South Korea. The program was conducted over one semester, from August to December 2025, and became a valuable academic and cultural experience for her.
During her time at GNU, Alkhansa took four courses: International Cooperation in Agriculture, Global Business, Media English, and Farm Practice. At the same time, she continued six thesis-related courses at UGM. According to her, the learning system in Korea felt much more interactive compared to Indonesia. Students were encouraged to actively participate in discussions, presentations, and group work, and professors often directly called on students to share their opinions. “The professors were very open and respectful of every opinion, which made me feel more confident speaking in front of the class,” Alkhansa shared.
Beyond academics, Alkhansa also gained valuable opportunities to interact with local and international students from various countries. She learned firsthand about Korean culture, including the Chuseok tradition, and exchanged stories with friends from Vietnam, the Philippines, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, the United States, Spain, Africa, Myanmar, and China. “This experience opened a new perspective for me about cultural diversity and different ways of viewing life,” she added.
