Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) and Xiamen University have reaffirmed their shared commitment to advancing knowledge, research, and global cooperation. The two universities established the foundation of their collaboration through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in 2019, which was later renewed in 2025. This commitment is now being followed up through the formation of a more specific and applicable cooperation framework at the faculty and institutional levels.

This collaboration is realized through the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) between the Faculty of Agriculture (Faperta) UGM and the Research School for Southeast Asian Studies (RSEAS) at Xiamen University. The main goal of this MoA is to encourage international collaboration in the fields of Indonesia-China relations, sustainable agriculture, and socio-economic development in rural Indonesia, and even beyond.
Under this agreement, both institutions have committed to developing various collaborative activities, including the exchange of lecturers, researchers, and students for short-term academic visits; the sharing of knowledge, information, and best practices related to sustainable agriculture and rural socio-economic development; as well as the implementation of other joint programs aligned with mutual interests.
Xiamen University was represented by Prof. Zhang Miao, Deputy Dean of the School of International Relations/Research School for Southeast Asian Studies (RSEAS), who also serves as the Person in Charge (PIC) of the collaboration, accompanied by Prof. Boyi Chen. Their presence reflects Xiamen University’s strong commitment to strengthening academic and research partnerships with UGM.
With a shared vision of collaboration, UGM and Xiamen University hope that this cooperation can serve as a catalyst for the birth of innovation, strengthen international relations, and provide real benefits to the broader community. This collaboration is also in line with the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG2: Zero hunger, SDG4: Quality education, SDG8: Decent work and economic growth, and SDG17: Partnerships for the goals.
