Ridho Abiyyu Shah Kautsar, a 2022 cohort student of the Aquaculture Study Program at the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), had the opportunity to participate in a student exchange program at Gyeongsang National University (GNU), South Korea. The program ran from August 29 to December 23, 2025, provided a valuable experience that broadened Ridho’s academic and cultural perspectives.
During his study period at GNU, Ridho took five courses: International Cooperation in Agriculture, Farm Practice 2PBL, Interpersonal Relationships, English Reading and Writing using Media, and Global Business English. He experienced a different learning atmosphere, where assignments were predominantly group projects. This approach trained students to collaborate, think critically, and prepare themselves to face professional challenges. “The materials taught truly prepared us to directly enter the professional world,” Ridho remarked.
Beyond academics, Ridho was impressed by the international cultural festival organized by GNU. Students from various countries showcased their traditional performances, including Vietnam, the Philippines, China, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, and Pakistan. This vibrant atmosphere enriched cross-cultural understanding and strengthened friendships among international students.
Adapting to the winter season was a new challenge. Coming from a tropical climate, Ridho needed time to adjust. Nevertheless, this experience became a valuable lesson in resilience and adapting to different environments.
Ridho emphasized that his success was inseparable from the full support of the Faculty of Agriculture UGM. Financial assistance, academic and non-academic guidance, as well as supporting facilities ensured the program ran smoothly. The faculty consistently strives to ensure that student activities are well-supported and effectively implemented.
This student exchange program contributes significantly to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
