Faculty of Agriculture UGM conducted water resources conservation program in agricultural land located at Nawungan, Imogiri, Bantul to overcome drought in agricultural land from August 2022 until December 2022. Chaired by Dr. Jamhari, S.P., M.P., the program had another goal to make Nawungan as a prototype of productive conservation agriculture. The following are the team members:
- Nur Ainun H.J. Pulungan, S.Si., M.Sc., Ph.D.
- Chandra Setyawan, S.TP., M.Eng., Ph.D.
- Edy Trihatmoko, S.Si., M.Sc.
- Pramasti Dyah Nhindyasari, S.P., M.Sc.
- Ahmad Priyo Sambodo, S.Si., M.Sc.
This water resources conservation program collaborated with the Lestari Mulyo Farmer Group, an association of Nawungan farmers, to be directly involved in a series of programs. Nawungan was chosen as the location of the water resources conservation program because the agricultural area had lithological drought due to the material and structure of the constituent rocks. Therefore, it was urgent to make a reservoir to collect rainwater using geomembranes.
Ngamin, as one of the Nawungan farmers, said that after the existence of a reservoir with a geomembrane, the water reservoir became more efficient and could hold water for a longer time.
“After using the geomembrane reservoir, irrigating onion plants only needs 4 times. If calculated in nominal money, this is a savings of Rp300,000. For us (farmers), we are very happy for this assistance,” said Ngamin.
