A student of the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada (Faperta UGM), Athifah Rahmadhani, achieved a brilliant milestone by winning a gold medal at the Open Karate Championship Sunan Kalijaga Cup XIII 2026. This victory is not only a personal pride but also contributes significantly to Faperta UGM and the dominance of the UGM Inkai Karate Student Activity Unit (UKM), which secured 8 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze medal out of 960 national participants.
The championship, held on May 1–2, 2026, at the Prof. Amin Abdullah Building, UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, featured 74 contingents from various regions across Indonesia. The UGM Inkai Karate team performed superiorly, proving their consistency as a major force in the national karate arena.

Amidst the team’s success, Athifah Rahmadhani—a student of the Plant Protection Study Program, Department of Plant Protection, Faperta UGM (Class of 2023)—shone brightly. In the Women’s Senior Kumite -55 kg category, she defeated the DIY contingent with a decisive 5-0 score, earning her the individual first-place title. Previously, Athifah also secured a gold medal at the 15th Silent Knight Karate Cup 2026, demonstrating high dedication in balancing her agricultural studies and karate.

These achievements are highly relevant in the context of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Athifah’s accomplishment and the success of UKM Karate Inkai UGM reflect SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being through the promotion of sports and healthy lifestyles, as well as SDG 5: Gender Equality through the outstanding performance of female athletes at the national level.
The achievements also align with SDG 4: Quality Education by encouraging holistic student development beyond academics, and SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities by providing equal opportunities for students to excel in both educational and extracurricular activities regardless of background.
In addition, this accomplishment supports SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions through the cultivation of discipline, integrity, respect, and sportsmanship—values that are deeply embedded in martial arts and character education.
Faperta UGM takes pride in the contributions of its students in strengthening the university’s commitment to nurturing globally competitive, resilient, and accomplished young generations.
