Faculty of Agriculture UGM Organizes “Jalan Sehat” to Support Health Promoting University Initiative

The Faculty of Agriculture at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) recently held a “Walking for health” or “Jalan Sehat” as part of its 78th anniversary celebration and to support the Health Promoting University (HPU) program. The event was a key feature of the Faculty’s Family Gathering, which took place on Sunday, 22 September 2024. The walk was officially launched with a brief speech by the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Ir. Jaka Widada, M.P., Ph.D.

“Through this Jalan Sehat, we hope all participants will feel healthier, and we look forward to seeing many winners of the door prizes in this joyful event,” said the Dean as he opened the walk, which brought together faculty members and their families. read more

Brawijaya University Professor Highlights Agroforestry as a Climate Change Solution at UGM’s 14th National Agricultural Research Seminar

On Saturday, 21 September 2024, the Faculty of Agriculture Universitas Gadjah Mada (Faperta UGM) hosted the 14th National Agricultural Research Seminar at the Prof. Harjono Danoesastro Auditorium as part of the 78th Anniversary of the Faculty. One of the keynote speakers was Prof. Ir. Kurniatun Hairiah, Ph.D., a renowned expert in soil biology and root ecology, and a Professor from the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Brawijaya. Prof. Kurniatun, familiarly known as Prof. Cho, delivered a presentation titled “Optimizing Land Use through Agroforestry for Climate Change Adaptation and Food Sovereignty.” read more

KMSEP UGM Introduces Farming to Elementary School Students Through Kidsfarm Program

The Community Service Department of the Family of Agricultural Social Economics Students (KMSEP) at Faculty of Agriculture Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) recently held their annual Kidsfarm program at SD Negeri Potrojayan 2 in Prambanan, Sleman, Yogyakarta. This year’s event aimed to introduce the world of agriculture to elementary school students, focusing on cultivating interest in farming and addressing the pressing issue of low farmer regeneration in Indonesia.

The Kidsfarm program, now a staple of KMSEP’s community outreach efforts, specifically targeted fourth and fifth-grade students this year. The theme was the cultivation of kangkung (water spinach), a shift from last year’s focus on spinach. The program also included lessons on environmental sustainability, such as recycling waste into plant pots, to teach the importance of waste management alongside agricultural skills. read more
