The Embassy of the Czech Republic officially inaugurated the Honorary Consulate General Representative Office in the Special Region of Yogyakarta on Tuesday, 29 October 2024. The office is located at the Agrotropica Learning Center (AGLC) Building, Faculty of Agriculture, UGM.
The establishment of this Honorary Consulate General Representative Office marks a strategic step to strengthen bilateral relations between Indonesia and the Czech Republic, focusing on economic, cultural, and educational cooperation. The event was attended by several notable figures.
The Rector of Universitas Gadjah Mada, Prof. Dr. Ova Emilia, M.Med.Ed., Sp.OG(K)., Ph.D., warmly welcomed the opening of this consulate as a symbol of the close collaboration between the two countries.
“We warmly welcome the establishment of the Honorary Consulate General of the Czech Republic here. This event not only celebrates the opening of a new office but also symbolizes the opening of doors for deeper exchanges of knowledge and culture, enriching both countries and their communities, especially in Yogyakarta,” said Prof. Ova.
Meanwhile, Jaroslav Dolecek, Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Indonesia, representing the Czech Embassy, explained the purpose of establishing the Honorary Consulate General Representative Office in Yogyakarta to enhance cooperation, particularly in the fields of culture and education.
“We genuinely hope for support from various parties to strengthen cooperation across sectors and to foster cultural and educational exchanges between the Czech Republic and Indonesia. We believe that through close collaboration, innovative solutions for the future can be created,” stated Jaroslav Dolecek.
On the same occasion, Hermawan Kartajaya, Honorary Consul General of the Czech Republic for East Java and the Special Region of Yogyakarta, also conveyed the urgency of opening this consulate as a catalyst for developing bilateral relations, especially in economics and education, with leading institutions.
“This bilateral relationship is highly significant. The opening of this consulate is not only about diplomacy but also about building bridges between our communities. We hope to become a connector facilitating the growth of new ideas and innovations that will positively impact both countries,” said Hermawan.
The event continued with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Honorary Consul General of the Czech Republic and Universitas Gadjah Mada, signed by Hermawan Kartajaya and Ir. Jaka Widada, M.P., Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, UGM. This was followed by the appointment of Ir. Jaka Widada, M.P., Ph.D., as the Assistant to the Honorary Consul General of the Czech Republic for the Special Region of Yogyakarta.
“Thank you very much to the Czech Republic for entrusting the opening of this branch office at Universitas Gadjah Mada. We hope this cooperation will bring significant benefits to both Indonesia and the Czech Republic,” said Dr. Jaka in his remarks.
The inauguration of this Honorary Consulate General Representative Office further strengthens the relationship between the Czech Republic and Indonesia, opening new opportunities in various strategic areas. The consulate will serve as a symbol of growing friendship and collaboration between the two countries.
The Faculty of Agriculture, UGM’s involvement in this event aligns with efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 1: No Poverty, SDG 2: Zero Hunger, SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
