The series of the Workshop on Preparedness and Management of Huanglongbing (HLB) on the second day, Tuesday, April 21, 2026, continued with field sessions, discussions, and interactive workshops involving academics, researchers, and innovative farmers. This agenda emphasized the importance of cross-sector collaboration in facing the threat of citrus HLB disease while strengthening agricultural human resource capacity.
The field session was guided by Alan Soffan, S.P., M.Sc., Ph.D. (Faculty of Agriculture UGM), who led participants in direct discussions regarding crop management practices and pest control strategies in the field. After the lunch break, the activity continued with a presentation by Dr. agr. Ir. Sri Peni Wastutiningsih (Faculty of Agriculture UGM) on extension and the delivery of information regarding pest services and agricultural practices. She emphasized the importance of effective communication between extension workers and farmers to ensure that innovations are implemented sustainably.
Next, Ramli, an innovative farmer from MORAGA, shared his experience on how scaling up agricultural businesses benefits farmers by giving them greater control over product sales. This discussion broadened participants’ insights into the importance of farmer empowerment in the agribusiness value chain.
The Q&A session then flowed into an interactive workshop (FGD) guided by Dr. agr. Ir. Sri Peni Wastutiningsih, Steven Falivene, and Dr. Ady Bayu Prakoso, S.P. Participants were encouraged to identify resource needs, opportunities, and the potential for citrus farming development. The discussion results were then presented in group sessions before concluding with a summary of the main findings by Prof. Dr. Ir. Siti Subandiyah, M.Agr.Sc., Ph.D., Alan Soffan, S.P., M.Sc., Ph.D., and Dr. agr. Ir. Sri Peni Wastutiningsih.
The second session of this workshop strengthened contributions to several sustainable development goals, specifically SDG 4: Quality education, SDG 8: Decent work and economic growth, SDG 9: Industry, innovation and infrastructure, SDG 12: Responsible consumption and production, SDG 15: Life on land, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the goals.
