The Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), represented by Dr.nat.sc. Faizal Rachman, S.Pi., M.Sc., along with six students from the International Undergraduate Class (IUC), conducted an academic visit to the Fujian Institute of Marine Sustainable Development, Xiamen University. The visit was warmly welcomed by the Director of the Fujian Institute, Prof. Xue Xiongzhi, and served as an important momentum in strengthening international cooperation.

In his remarks, Prof. Xue emphasized that this visit was not merely an academic exchange, but also part of the “International Cooperation Network for Coastal Sustainable Development” framework initiated by the Fujian Institute. The Faculty of Agriculture UGM itself is one of the founding members of this network; thus, the presence of UGM lecturers and students strengthens Indonesia’s position in global collaboration.
During the academic session, Dr. Fu Yiqiu presented the main findings of the Coastal Sustainable Development Capacity Index of Maritime Silk Road Countries. UGM students actively engaged in dialogue, shared research, and showed interest in collaborating. On the same occasion, the Fujian Institute also introduced Chinese Government scholarship opportunities and specific scholarships in the field of coastal sustainable development, opening opportunities for Indonesian students to pursue further studies at Xiamen University.
This visit serves as a follow-up to UGM’s success in obtaining the QS Subject Ranking Improvement Research Grant Program in December 2025. More broadly, the program reflects the IUC’s commitment to strengthening international networks, expanding research collaboration, and enhancing the capacity of future generations to address challenges in coastal sustainable development.
This visit not only strengthens academic relations but also presents a tangible contribution to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 4: Quality education, SDG 13: Climate action, SDG 14: Life below water, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the goals.
