Faculty of Agriculture Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) has converted the roof terrace of Building A1 into a mini grape park and co-working space for its academic community. This initiative is part of the faculty’s urban farming implementation, aligning with its Smart Eco-Bioproduction slogan, which reflects the faculty’s commitment to provide an innovative, efficient, and eco-friendly agricultural practices. The Grape Park, which has been in development for about three years, currently features 12 different types of grapes.
Agus Sudarwinto, S.E., M.M., Head of Administration at the Faculty of Agriculture, explained that the primary goal of the grape park is to maximize the use of available space within the faculty grounds.
“The mini grape park was created to utilize the terrace on top of Building A1 as a space that supports the activities of both faculty members and students,” said Agus.
In addition to serving as a grape park, the area offers a panoramic view of the Faculty of Agriculture from above, making it a comfortable spot for students to work and engage in discussions. The space is frequently used by students for assignments, group discussions, events, and other activities. Faculty members also use the vineyard for meetings.
The conversion of non-productive land into productive space illustrates the faculty’s commitment to achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 3: Good Health and Well-being, 4: Quality Education, 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, and 13: Climate Action.
