The Faculty of Agriculture at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) recently held a “Walking for health” or “Jalan Sehat” as part of its 78th anniversary celebration and to support the Health Promoting University (HPU) program. The event was a key feature of the Faculty’s Family Gathering, which took place on Sunday, 22 September 2024. The walk was officially launched with a brief speech by the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Ir. Jaka Widada, M.P., Ph.D.
“Through this Jalan Sehat, we hope all participants will feel healthier, and we look forward to seeing many winners of the door prizes in this joyful event,” said the Dean as he opened the walk, which brought together faculty members and their families.
The walk followed a scenic route around UGM’s campus, starting from the Faculty of Agriculture, passing by various iconic spots such as the Balairung, the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, the Central Library, the Faculty of Economics and Business, the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Grha Sabha Pramana, and the UGM Mosque. The route continued past the Faculty of Psychology, Faculty of Philosophy, and Faculty of Law before returning to the Faculty of Agriculture, marking the finish line.
The event saw participation from the entire academic community of the Faculty of Agriculture, including lecturers, administrative staff, and their families. Dr. Firdausi Nur Azizah, S.P., Vice Chair of the Family Gathering organizing committee, explained that the healthy walk is a regular event held annually. It has become a highlight of the Family Gathering, offering an opportunity for faculty members and staff to enjoy a communal walk and reconnect.
“This event is not just about walking, but about building connections and strengthening relationships. It’s a time for us all to meet, greet, and socialize,” said Dr. Firdausi, who is affectionately known as Usi.
In addition to the walk, the faculty provided healthy snacks such as boiled corn, peanuts, and sweet potatoes, served in plastic-free containers as part of the Faculty’s commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility.
The event also reflected UGM’s ongoing commitment to the Health Promoting University initiative. This initiative aligns with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being, SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, SDG 13: Climate Action, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
