The Agricultural Extension and Communication Study Program (PKP) at the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada (Faperta UGM) has officially published a book titled “Millennial Innovation, Building the Future of Agriculture” on Wednesday, 23 October 2024. This book is the work of students participating in the Publishing Management Practicum, featuring a collection of innovative articles about millennial farmers in Yogyakarta.

Supported by the Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics and Adipura Publishing, this publication serves as a testament to student collaboration in creating sustainable agricultural solutions for the future.

The book-writing process not only sharpened students’ writing and academic research skills but also provided them with practical experience in publishing. Students actively participated in every stage of the process, including writing, editing, layout design, and printing. They conducted field research and interviews with millennial farmers in Yogyakarta to produce engaging and insightful articles. This initiative represents a collaborative effort between students, lecturers, and practicum assistants.

“As lecturers, we only provided technical guidance and suggestions, but the content is entirely the students’ original work,” said Mesalia Kriska, S.P., M.Sc., lecturer for the Publishing Management course.

As a student-written anthology, “Millennial Innovation” showcases various ideas and innovations derived from interviews and direct observations with farmers. Each article is woven together to present different perspectives and solutions for modern agricultural challenges.

Although the book is currently an anthology, there are hopes that future works will focus on full-length articles. “We hope that our next publication can become a reference book or even a practical handbook that serves as both an inspiration and an academic resource,” Mesalia added.

The Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics (SOSEK) at Faperta UGM played a significant role in funding and securing Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) for this book. This collaboration is expected to be a starting point for students to become more active in writing and contributing to agricultural literature.

With the publication of this book, the UGM PKP Study Program has proven that young generations are capable of innovation and contributing to the advancement of Indonesia’s agricultural sector. The book “Millennial Innovation” also serves as a tangible achievement supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 1: No Poverty, SDG 2: Zero Hunger, SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals
