The Impact of Extreme Precipitation on the Microbial Safety of Drinking Water: Prof. YU Xin Shares Sanitation Technology Solutions at Faperta UGM’s SC-STAF 2026

A smooth supply of clean water that meets health standards is our fundamental daily need, yet this guarantee now faces severe challenges due to climate change and global extreme weather. In response to this crucial issue, the second parallel session of the Summer Course on Sustainable Tropical Agriculture and Fisheries (SC-STAF) 2026 series on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, featured a prominent environmental ecology expert from Xiamen University, China, Prof. YU Xin.

Prof. YU Xin, who is a researcher from the College of the Environment & Ecology, Xiamen University, delivered a material titled “Impacts of Extreme Precipitation on Microbial Safety of Drinking Water.” Professor YU examined how extreme heavy rainfall and typhoons are capable of washing away bacteria and pollutants from the land, subsequently carrying them into raw water sources that serve as the foundation for daily public consumption. read more

UGM PKP Students Contribute to Climate Change Mitigation Training

Students of the Agricultural Extension and Communication (BAEC) Study Program, class of 2023, Faculty of Agriculture, Gadjah Mada University (Faperta UGM), participated in the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Berdampak (MBKB) program through mentoring in Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Training for Independent Agricultural Extension Workers. This intensive activity took place for five days on April 6–10, 2026, at the UPTD Center for Agricultural Human Resources Development (BPSDMP) Jaranan, Panggungharjo, Sewon, Bantul, as well as through field visits to the Yogyakarta Agency for Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics (BMKG DIY) Climatology Station and Rejo Farm, Sleman. read more

Local Fish Stocking Ceremony at Lembah UGM: Synergy for Biodiversity

The Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada, through the Department of Fisheries, organized the Local Fish Stocking Ceremony at UGM Valley Lake. This activity is a follow-up to the collaboration between the Yogyakarta Provincial Marine and Fisheries Office and UGM, serving as a tangible commitment to preserving terrestrial ecosystems and enriching aquatic biodiversity within the campus.

The event was attended by R. Hery Sulistio Hermawan, S.Pi., M.T, Head of the Yogyakarta Marine and Fisheries Office; Prof. Suadi, S.Pi., M.Agr., Sc., Ph.D, Director of Human Resources at UGM; representatives from UGM Residence; village officials from Caturtunggal; and members of the academic community of the Department of Fisheries. The ceremony was opened by Abiyyu Dzaki Hernawan, a Fisheries student and finalist of Duta Gemarikan DIY. read more
