Faculty of Agriculture Universitas Gadjah Mada (Faperta UGM) has reaffirmed its commitment to producing high-quality human resources. This initiative is bolstered by alumni of the faculty, organized under the Keluarga Alumni Universitas Gadjah Mada (KAGAMA) Pertanian, who have awarded scholarships to five students. The scholarships were presented during an alumni gathering on Sunday, 22 September 2024, by KAGAMA Pertanian’s Chairperson, Ir. YN Hari Hardono, along with the Dean of the Faculty, Ir. Jaka Widada, M.P., Ph.D., and all Vice Deans of the Faculty.
KAGAMA Pertanian, in collaboration with the Faculty of Agriculture established the Harjono Danoesastro Foundation in 2022 to provide scholarships for academically high-achieving students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. To date, the foundation has raised over Rp. 1 billion, partly funded by PT Saraswanti Group and contributions from alumni of Faperta UGM.
The five recipients of the 2024 KAGAMA Pertanian scholarships excel not only academically but also in non-academic pursuits. The recipients include Niswatul Farikhah (Aquaculture 2022), Rizka Lailia Rachma (Plant Protection 2023), Hanif Falah Nasrulloh (Agronomy 2022), Miftakhul Ulum (Soil Science 2023), and Muhamad Yusron Sidiq (Agricultural Extension and Communication 2022).
The Dean of Faculty of Agriculture expressed hopes that the scholarships would motivate students to achieve further success. Dr. Dyah Weny Respatie, S.P., M.Si., Vice Dean for Academic Affairs and Student Affairs, emphasized that these scholarships encourage students to excel.
“We hope that the endowment fund for these scholarships continues to grow, allowing more students to benefit from KAGAMA scholarships. We also wish for the recipients to feel inspired to excel, and once they graduate and find success, to contribute back as donors to support future students in need,” Dr. Weny stated.
One scholarship recipient, Hanif Falah Nasrulloh, expressed his gratitude and excitement about the opportunity. He noted that the scholarship alleviates financial burdens and opens doors for broader networking in the agricultural sector.
“I am incredibly grateful for this scholarship. It allows me to focus on my studies and personal development. Furthermore, I feel motivated to contribute to agriculture, especially through projects that engage young people interested in this field,” Hanif shared enthusiastically.
Hanif is currently developing a project aimed at supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly the goal of Zero Hunger. He hopes this initiative will serve as a platform for youth interested in agriculture to participate in advancing Indonesia’s agricultural sector toward a more sustainable and innovative future, playing a crucial role in national food security.
Through the KAGAMA Pertanian scholarships, Faculty of Agriculture UGM aims to continue nurturing a generation that excels academically while also being dedicated to sustainable agricultural development and the welfare of society. This aligns with the faculty’s broader commitment to achieving SDG goals, including SDG1: No Poverty, SDG4: Quality Education, SDG10: Reduced Inequalities, and SDG17: Partnerships for the Goals.
