The Department of Fisheries, Faculty of Agriculture Universitas Gadjah Mada (Faperta UGM), held a lively celebration of its 61st anniversary with the theme “Fostering a Maritime Spirit, Contributing to the Nation.” The series of events ran from 26-30 July August 2024.

The opening ceremony, held on 26 July 2024, was attended by Ir. Jaka Widada, M.P., Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture UGM; Prof. Dr. Ir. Alim Isnansetyo, M.Sc., Head of the Department of Fisheries UGM; and Indun Puspita, S.P., M.Sc., Ph.D., Chair of the 61st Anniversary Committee. The opening festivities featured a morning exercise session followed by a communal breakfast.

On Tuesday, 30 July 2024, representatives of faculty and staff visited the graves of former lecturers and staff as part of the anniversary program. This gesture was a tribute of gratitude and respect to honor and commemorate the contributions of these pioneers.

The celebration continued with outreach visits (Anjangsana) to retired faculty and staff from 1-15 August 2024. These visits were a heartfelt appreciation for their dedication and contributions to the Department of Fisheries UGM.

The grand finale of the 61st Anniversary celebration took place on Friday, 30 August 2024, at the Harjono Danoesastro Auditorium, Faculty of Agriculture, UGM. The event commenced with a report by Indun Dewi Puspita, S.P., M.Sc., Ph.D., Chair of the 61st Anniversary Committee.

“Reaching 61 years reflects a long journey of dedication in fostering a maritime spirit among young generations and driving progress in Indonesia’s marine and fisheries sectors,” said Indun.

Prof. Subejo, S.P., M.Sc., Ph.D., Vice Dean for Research, Community Service, and Cooperation, also addressed the celebration:  “We see the great achievements of the Department of Fisheries and its immense potential. We are confident its contributions will only grow more significant in the future,” he remarked.

The main event continued with an Annual Report presentation by Prof. Dr. Ir. Alim Isnansetyo, M.Sc., Head of the Department of Fisheries UGM, followed by a scientific lecture on “Rabbitfish Aquaculture Innovation: Towards Economic Success and Environmental Sustainability” by Miftakhul Munir, S.Pi.
