Monday, 14 August 2023, marks the starting point of a new academic journey for the New Undergraduate Students of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), including the First Batch Students of International Undergraduate Class (IUC) at Faculty of Agriculture UGM. The IUC is a new, fresh offer for Undergraduate Students Batch 2023 at the Faculty and intended to be a knowledge-enriching as well as perspective-broadening education environment for Students in the VUCA (Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, and Ambiguity) era. The visitor of Michigan State University (MSU) Cooperation Unit, USA consisting of four people. The discussion was attended by the dean ranks, Chairperson of the Cooperation Unit Prof. Dr. Ir. Achmadi Priyatmojo, M.Sc., Prof. Dr. Ir. Siti Subandiyah, M.Agr. Sc., Prof. Dr. Ir. Andi Trisyono, M.Sc., Ph.D., and Widhi Dyah Sawitri, S.Sc., M.Agr., Ph.D., and Prof. Dr. Ir. M. Herman, M.Sc.

According to Jeffrey W. Dwyer, Ph.D., this visit aims to establish cooperation in the academic field, especially at the master and doctoral levels. Previously, in the 1990s MSU had collaborated with Faculty of Agriculture UGM in developing agricultural research and education. This is also one of the reasons for MSU USA to re-establish cooperation with Faculty of Agriculture UGM. CIRAD (La Recherche Agronomique Pour Le Développement) is the Center for International Agricultural Research in France which organizes to develop agricultural sustainability in the tropics and the Mediterranean area. CIRAD as a platform for researchers, especially in France and generally throughout the world, has cooperation with 90 countries in the world. One of CIRAD’s activities is to spread new knowledge in the current development of agriculture. The guest lecture with the topic “Photosynthesis and Climate Change” was given by D. Fabre who has long accompanied research in the tropics including Indonesia. The event opened by Dr. Ir. Endang Sulistyaningsih, M.Sc. Also attended by lecturers and agronomy students from various strata. The guest lecture which lasted for approximately two hours brought a lot of new knowledge about the effects of climate change which reduced rice production, especially in Indonesia. This production is influenced by photosynthesis which is inhibited in the stomata. The discussion going interestingly by bringing new ideas to be developed by agriculture in Indonesia, especially in rice cultivation. Mir read more
