The Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada (Faperta UGM) successfully held an Entrepreneurship Talkshow on Saturday, 9 November 2024, inviting two inspiring figures: Safira Nada Athaya, the owner of the successful Basreng Factory business, and Sorya Hastriningrum Denty, a facilitator of the Student Entrepreneur Program (PMW). This talkshow, organized by the Student Executive Body of the Faculty of Agriculture (BEM KM FPN) UGM, was attended by hundreds of enthusiastic students eager to gain practical insights into the business and entrepreneurship world.
As one of the speakers, Safira, a young successful entrepreneur with Basreng Factory, shared her journey into the world of entrepreneurship. She revealed that her snack business, Basreng, was born out of her interest in independent ventures, which then grew rapidly thanks to smart digital marketing strategies. Safira also provided practical guidance for students who want to start a business, explaining the important role of social media in expanding product reach, which helped Basreng Factory go viral and gain widespread recognition among young consumers.
On the other hand, Sorya introduced and explained in detail the Student Entrepreneur Program (PMW) initiated by the UGM Subdirectorate for Character Development. PMW is designed to help students sharpen their entrepreneurial skills through a series of structured activities. Sorya explained that the program not only enhances management and innovation skills but also broadens students’ business networking opportunities.
“There are several stages in PMW, starting from selection, mentoring, to evaluation and expo or the Character Festival, where participants can showcase their business results,” explained Sorya.
The talkshow was held in the Multimedia Room, 1st floor of the A2a Building, Faculty of Agriculture UGM and began with opening remarks by Muhammad Sholeh (Aquatic Product Technology 2021) as the Minister Coordinator of Student Affairs at BEM KM FPN UGM, and Syazlina Tiffani (Aquatic Product Technology 2023) as the event organizer. The hope is that this talkshow will motivate students not only to have solid business skills but also the confidence to create job opportunities for themselves and others.
The Faculty of Agriculture UGM hopes that this event will encourage the emergence of young entrepreneurs who are innovative, creative, and capable of competing both locally and globally. The event also demonstrates the commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
