One-health is a collaborative approach that aims to build sustainable health resilience from connection between humans, animals, and environment. Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) received a visit from Dr. Harro Maat, a Lecturer at Knowledge, Technology, and Innovation, WUR, Netherlands, on Monday (27/11) to Friday (1/12), discussing health issues with the One-health approach.

Discussions were carried out with the One-health UGM members from Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Medicine, Public Health and Nursing, and Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. Also, there were discussions with the Experts from Faculty of Agriculture, resulting in an overview of health issues and their causes in society. Apart from that, information about One-health in Indonesia was also collected from scientists. This was conveyed by Dr. Dyah Woro Untari, S.P., M.P., Head of Agricultural Extension and Communication Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture UGM. In addition to the discussions with the Experts, information gathering was also carried out through Forum Group Discussion (FGD) with farmer communities, Pusat Kesehatan Hewan (Puskeswan) officers, and Family Assistance Team officers in villages assisted by Agricultural Extension and Communication study program in Jamblangan, Margomulyo, Seyegan, Sleman.

The aim of all these initiatives was to figure out what sort of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) for health support the Dutch Embassy in Indonesia might potentially provide. The agricultural sector is one of the key sectors that can support the realization of health security. “Faculty of Agriculture, as one of the scopes of One-Health, contributes to the science and technology development related to health-safe agricultural products and practices,” explained Dr. Untari. The Faculty of Agriculture’s participation in the realization of the One-health concept is a part of its commitment to the SDGs, considering the role of One-health as a catalyst for achieving sustainable development.
