Entrepreneurship Expo 2025: Agricultural Economics & Agribusiness Students Showcase FnB Business Innovations

news Friday, 19 September 2025

On Monday, 2 June, 2025, the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada (Faperta UGM), once again held the Entrepreneurship Expo at the Prof. Harjono Danoesastro Auditorium, Faperta UGM. The 2025 Entrepreneurship Expo marked the second year of the event, which is part of the Entrepreneurship course practicum initiated by the lecturers and assistants of the Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness Study Program (EPA). This year’s Expo became a platform for students to present their creativity and innovations in the food and beverage (FnB) business. Compared to last year, a greater variety of food and beverage products became the new highlight of the 2025 Entrepreneurship Expo.

The main goal of organizing this Entrepreneurship Expo is to implement various business ideas designed by students in the form of business model canvases and business plans they have developed during the practicum sessions. The Expo is designed as a space for students not only to understand the theories of entrepreneurship learned in lectures but also to directly apply them in real-life practice. By participating in this activity, students are expected to gain valuable experience in designing, preparing, and presenting a complete business concept. In addition, the event also aims to foster confidence, enhance creativity, and sharpen communication and teamwork skills—competencies that are crucial in the entrepreneurial world.

“We hope the 2025 Entrepreneurship Expo can ignite students’ enthusiasm to keep innovating, create new business opportunities, and nurture an entrepreneurial spirit that is resilient, independent, and ready to face challenges in the business world—especially through digital marketing initiatives that the students have carried out. All the food and beverage products offered are downstream products of agriculture, so we hope that more students will become entrepreneurs, particularly in the agricultural sector,” said Dr. Hani Perwitasari, S.P., M.Sc., EPA lecturer.

The agricultural downstream concept was reflected in the food and beverages presented at the 2025 Entrepreneurship Expo. All of the products sold at this event were made from fruits and vegetables, which are downstream agricultural products. One booth, for example, sold vegetable dim sum.

“This vegetable dim sum is an innovation from the usual meat-based dim sum, which we combined with vegetables as an agricultural downstream product. This event has had a big impact on us as it trained our entrepreneurial spirit—from planning and preparation to promotion and negotiation, which are closely related to what we study as EPA students,” explained one student.

Not only did the event serve as a platform for learning and business development for students, but it also reflected Faperta UGM’s efforts and commitment to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 1: No Poverty, SDG 2: Zero Hunger, SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, and SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure.

PPSMB Pionir Organik 2025: Ryan D’Masiv Brings the Spirit of ‘Never Give Up’ to New Students of the Faculty of Agriculture UGM

news Thursday, 18 September 2025

The Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada (Faperta UGM), presented national musician Ryan D’Masiv as an inspirational speaker at the Pengenalan Kehidupan Kampus bagi Mahasiswa Baru (PPSMB) Pionir Organik 2025. The event took place on Wednesday, 6 August, 2025, at the Fisheries Field as part of the welcoming series for “Amarta Muda,” the designation for new students of the Faculty of Agriculture UGM. A total of 635 Amarta Muda were officially admitted to Faperta UGM to pursue studies across nine programs: Agronomy, Aquaculture, Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness, Soil Science, Aquatic Resource Management, Agricultural Microbiology, Agricultural Extension and Communication, Plant Protection, and Fisheries Product Technology.

The event was symbolically opened with the rotation of the “Harmoni Cakra Abhipraya” gear by the Dean of Faperta UGM, Ir. Jaka Widada, M.P., Ph.D., accompanied by the faculty leadership team, including the Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs, Dr. Dyah Weny Respatie, S.P., M.Si., Coordinator of the PPSMB Pionir Organik 2025 Cluster, Dr. Firdausi Nur Azizah, S.P., department and program chairs within Faperta UGM, as well as the General Coordinator of Pionir Organik 2025, Adiyatma Tunjung R.

On this occasion, Ryan shared his life struggles to motivate new students in facing university life. He delivered a heartfelt message through his famous song “Jangan Menyerah” (Never Give Up), which has become a symbol of strength and perseverance in overcoming life’s challenges.

“Never give up on achieving your dreams. Be grateful for what you have, embrace the process, and always keep your spirit alive,” Ryan encouraged.

He recounted his life journey filled with challenges since his school years. Although he failed to realize his dream of studying at UGM and came from a modest background, Ryan pursued music with great discipline. He even performed on the streets from Ciledug to Blok M to train his mentality and build confidence, before eventually leading D’Masiv to win a national band competition and sign with a major label.

“You should be grateful because you have the opportunity to study in college,” Ryan told the students. “Believe that you can be successful. The key is to love what you do, keep a positive mindset, and practice manifesting—say good things, because your words are prayers. Even if something feels impossible, keep saying you can do it. When challenges come, trust that you are capable of facing them. And don’t forget, write down your dreams, because once written, they become targets you can pursue.”

The Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture UGM, Ir. Jaka Widada, M.P., Ph.D., in his remarks, emphasized the importance of perseverance and gratitude in pursuing higher education. He stated that Ryan’s story resonates with the spirit the Faculty of Agriculture seeks to instill in its students: resilience, honesty, and responsibility.

“Perseverance and gratitude are the foundations for building the future. We hope that Amarta Muda will take this story as inspiration to keep creating and learning wholeheartedly, including in advancing Indonesia’s agricultural and fisheries sectors,” said the Dean.

Ryan also highlighted the importance of doing everything wholeheartedly, including in agriculture. According to him, farming and planting are not merely jobs but should be carried out with love and sincerity.

“Whether planting fruit or any other crops, it must come from the heart. That is what makes the results different and meaningful,” Ryan explained.

In addition to sharing his inspirational story, the session also featured interactive song performances that drew great enthusiasm from the new students.

This activity reflects the commitment of the Faculty of Agriculture UGM to create an educational environment that excels not only academically but also supports the character and mental development of students. In a broader context, the event also contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.

The Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada (Faperta UGM), has once again achieved an outstanding accomplishment at the international level. Five Faperta students successfully passed the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) scholarship program at Yamagata University, Japan. Out of a total of 83 applicants, only 18 participants were accepted, and five of them were students from the Faculty of Agriculture UGM. The five selected students are Nabilla Rachma Kusuma (Undergraduate in Agricultural Microbiology), Yomita Misya (Undergraduate in Agricultural Microbiology), Dinda Maulida Al Adawiyah (Undergraduate in Agricultural Microbiology), Fransisco Yamonaha Harefa (Undergraduate in Soil Science), and Laili Mufarrahah (Master’s in Soil Science). They were guided by competent Faperta UGM lecturers in their respective fields and will conduct research alongside professors from Yamagata University, including Prof. Dr. Toru Watanabe, Associate Prof. Dr. Satoru Sato, and Prof. Dr. Weiguo Cheng.

Through this program, the students will have the opportunity to broaden their academic and cultural horizons, as well as build international scientific networks that will enrich their contributions to the development of agricultural science in the future. Active participation in global programs such as JASSO demonstrates the readiness of Faperta UGM students to address the challenges of modern agriculture that transcend national boundaries.

This accomplishment is not only a source of pride for the institution but also strengthens UGM’s reputation as a university that produces globally competitive graduates. Participation in such international programs is expected to encourage other students to continuously enhance their academic capacity and expand their scientific outlook.
