On Saturday, 21 September 2024, the Faculty of Agriculture Universitas Gadjah Mada (Faperta UGM) hosted the 14th National Agricultural Research Seminar at the Prof. Harjono Danoesastro Auditorium as part of the 78th Anniversary of the Faculty. One of the keynote speakers was Prof. Ir. Kurniatun Hairiah, Ph.D., a renowned expert in soil biology and root ecology, and a Professor from the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Brawijaya. Prof. Kurniatun, familiarly known as Prof. Cho, delivered a presentation titled “Optimizing Land Use through Agroforestry for Climate Change Adaptation and Food Sovereignty.”
SDG 1: No Poverty
One of the keynote speakers at the 14th National Seminar on Agricultural Research (SEMNASHAS Faperta UGM), a research professor from the Climate and Atmosphere Research Center of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Prof. Dr. Edvin Aldrian, B.Eng., M.Sc., proposed optimizing an accurate seasonal prediction system. According to him, this system would aid in the strategic planning of food exports and imports, making them more measurable and offering a viable solution for achieving food sovereignty in Indonesia.
On 27 September 2024, the Faculty of Agriculture UGM officially inaugurated the Joglo Tea, Coffee, and Cacao Learning Center in collaboration with BRI Peduli, coinciding with the 78th anniversary of the Faculty of Agriculture. The ribbon-cutting ceremony was conducted by John Sarjono, Regional CEO of BRI Yogyakarta, accompanied by Ir. Jaka Widada, M.P., Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture UGM. This facility was established to support education, research, and community empowerment, especially in developing cocoa, tea, and coffee commodities.
