Mahmudi, S.P., M.Si., President Director of PT Sinergi Gula Nusantara (PT SGN), was one of the guest speakers at the pre-graduation briefing for undergraduate students of the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), Class of 2023/2024. During the session, Mahmudi shared valuable insights on how to become professional planters, highlighting key qualities and attitudes such as AKHLAK (integrity, competence, harmony, loyalty, adaptability, and collaboration).

In front of 286 prospective graduates gathered at the Prof. Harjono Danoesastro Auditorium, Mahmudi also shared his personal journey of hard work and determination that led him to his current role as President Director.

“Professional planters can be built through good qualities and attitudes, such as AKHLAK, which includes being trustworthy, competent, harmonious, loyal, adaptive, and collaborative. In addition to these traits, you must also work in a correct and timely manner, with discipline, and be able to implement technology effectively,” Mahmudi explained during the briefing held on Monday, 26 August 2024.

Throughout his 23-year career at PT Perkebunan Nusantara (PTPN), Mahmudi also shared tips for the graduates as they prepare to enter the workforce. He emphasized the importance of interacting wisely with superiors, peers, and subordinates, as well as cultivating a strong mentality, adaptability, and the ability to take initiative. Mahmudi motivated the graduates by recounting his career journey, offering key advice on the importance of finding passion in one’s work.

“When you come the workforce, the job must become your passion. Once you decide to work, whether in the plantation sector, banking, or even as an entrepreneur, my advice is to make that job your passion,” he advised.

This briefing, which aimed to equip graduates with knowledge for their future careers, reflects the Faculty of Agriculture’s commitment to supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
