From 7-8 August 2024, the Faculty of Agriculture once again organized a badminton tournament at the Lembah UGM Sports Hall (GOR). The badminton tournament is a traditional competition held as part of the Faculty of Agriculture UGM’s Anniversary celebrations. Nur Ari Purnomo, commonly known as Ari, an administrative staff member serving as the sports committee organizer for the Faculty of Agriculture’s Anniversary, stated that the tournament is held annually due to the presence of the Faculty of Agriculture’s badminton association.

“Badminton has been a competition event because we have a badminton association that regularly plays every Friday from 14:00 to 16:00 WIB at Lembah UGM. Additionally, there were suggestions from several lecturers and staff members to hold a badminton competition,” said Ari.

Although it remains a staple event, this year’s tournament had slight modifications. This year, participants were limited to Temporary Daily Workers (THL), administrative staff (tendik), and lecturers only. This decision was made because students had recently completed the Faculty of Agriculture’s Sports and Arts Week (PORTANI), and thus, they were not involved in this year’s tournament.

The badminton tournament winners were divided into three categories: men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles. The winners of the men’s doubles category were Agung Dian Kharisma and Donny Widianto (1st Place), Nur Ari Purnomo and Joko Suranto (2nd Place), Wagiran and Tukiyat, as well as Wahyu Budiyanto and Suharto (3rd Place). The winners of the women’s doubles category were Murwani and Anissa Cahyaningrum (1st Place), and Deswita and Retno Lestari (2nd Place). Meanwhile, the winners of the mixed doubles category were Muslimin and Ahyana (1st Place), Agus Riyadi and Retno Lestari (2nd Place), Tri Prabowo and Murwani Esti, as well as Wahyu Budiyanto and Tri Rinawati (3rd Place).

The badminton tournament was not only intended as a competition but also as a means to foster camaraderie and strengthen relationships within the Faculty of Agriculture UGM’s academic community.

This tournament is part of the Faculty of Agriculture UGM’s commitment to supporting SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being and SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions.
