To celebrate the 78th Anniversary of the Faculty of Agriculture at Universitas Gadjah Mada (Faperta UGM), the Faculty of Agriculture organized a fishing competition. This competition was divided into two categories: male and female. The female category was held at the Fisheries Department Pond on Friday, 9 August 2024, while the male category took place at the Belik River Stream of the Fisheries Department on Friday, 16 August 2024.
Nur Ari Purnomo, a staff member of the Fisheries Department’s Administrative Office and a member of the sports committee, explained that the high enthusiasm of temporary daily workers (THL), educational staff (tendik), and lecturers was the main reason for choosing a fishing competition as part of the anniversary celebrations. This event received an enthusiastic response, evidenced by the participation of 30 female and 90 male contestants. Although the fishing competition has become an annual event at the Faculty of Agriculture, it always brings a unique atmosphere each year.
“Each year, this fishing competition has its differences. Last year, we only held a single category where both men and women competed together. However, this year, we introduced two separate categories for men and women due to the high enthusiasm among female THL and tendik participants,” explained Nur Ari Purnomo, familiarly known as Ari.
The criteria for determining winners differed between the male and female categories. In the male category, winners were chosen based on the heaviest barramundi fish caught within 90 minutes. Meanwhile, in the female category, the winner was determined by the highest number of fish caught within the same duration.
The winners of the female category were Retno Lestari (1st Place) with 29 fish, Wiwit Yuni Astuty (2nd Place) with 26 fish, Hafizhoh Hanafia (3rd Place) with 25 fish, and Murwani Esti (Honorable Mention) with 23 fish. In the male category, the winners were Anggit, Sumbogo, and Agus Bandandianto (1st Place) with a total fish weight of 285 grams, followed by Tegus and Syaqif Ardanu (2nd Place) with a fish weight of 275 grams.
This fishing competition reflects the Faculty of Agriculture UGM’s commitment to supporting SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, and SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions.
