
The Faculty of Agriculture of Universitas Gadjah Mada (Faperta UGM) hosted a socialization event on agriculture jobs in Japan organized by the National Chamber of Agriculture (NCA) Japan. The event was attended by the Agricultural Attache of the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in Japan, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Secretary of the Agricultural Extension and Human Resources Development Agency of the Ministry of Agriculture, the Dean of Faperta UGM, the Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs, the Vice Dean for Research, Community Service, and Cooperation, all the Head of Department in Faperta UGM, Lectures, agricultural business people in Japan, and representatives from the National Chamber of Agriculture (NCA) Japan. The reception of invited guests was held on 25 February 2025 at the Venture Room, Agro Tropical Learning Center (AGLC) Faperta UGM.

Vice Dean for Research, Community Service, and Cooperation of the Faperta UGM, Prof. Subejo S. P., M. Sc., Ph. D. gave a speech that the Faculty of Agriculture was grateful for the arrival of all participant, so that cooperation between Indonesia and Japan could be well established.
National Chamber of Agriculture (NCA) Japan revealed that Japan`s population is declining. It has an impact on the number of farmers who are also declining. “Indonesian workers that we know are very diligent in working while in Japan, so we really hope that young generation in Indonesia can choose to work in Japan, especially in the agricultural sector which we really need,” his explained.
Japan also expects workers from abroad not only to work for a certain period of time and return to their home countries, but also to know the culture and way of life in Japan, so that a good relationship can be created between Japan and Indonesia. The hope is to exchange business and provide mutual benefits between Japan and Indonesia.

Responding to the statement from the representative of National Chamber of Agriculture (NCA) Japan, Dean of Faperta UGM, Ir. Jaka Widada, M. P., Ph. D. thanked the appreciation and trust given to the Indonesian workforce. “Hopefully it can add to the experience of graduates of Faperta UGM and cooperation between Japan and Indonesia continues to grow. In addition, we are ready to cooperate both the introduction of Japanese language and culture to students, of course it will be a better thing in the future,” his explained.
UGM students who are interested in working in Japan have the opportunity to take the Specified Skilled Workers (SSW) test or Takotei Ginou and Technical Intern Training Program (TITP) or also known as Ginou Jisshusei. TITP is a technical internship program organized by the Japanese government to provide job training to foreign, include Indonesia.
The reception of National Chamber of Agriculture and agricultural businessmen from Yamagata Japan by the Faperta UGM is one of the brilliant steps to create a new spirit for UGM agricultural graduates to be open to international exposure that opens opportunities for all UGM students. It also joint effort to realize SDG 1: No Poverty, SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth. SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities, SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
